This week we pay a brief visit to the Fremantle Motor Museum, is a success story which has been 20 years in the making. We talk to WA celebrity, Peter Briggs about his major contribution to the initial intake of exhibits – 52 motor cars and 15 motor bikes as well as the superb philatelic collection and motoring memorabilia .
Vehicles date right back to the late 1890’s and the collection includes Formula One racing cars once driver by Stan and Alan Jones and Sir Jackie Stewart.
Much of the display came from the York Motor Museum which Peter Briggs opened in December 1979, transforming the historic country town from a sleepy backwater to the most important inland tourism town in Western Australia. The museum was awarded the Sir David Brand Award for Tourism at a time when there was only one category for the awards – an enormous achievement.
The Fremantle Motor Museum is open every day of the week from 9.30 am to 5 pm and is located at B Shed at Victoria Quay. The Museum is also available for functions and product launches.
