This Weeks Episode of Home in WA

It may be getting a little colder outside but Colin has a great idea to help spice up your life!  And it doesn’t matter if you don’t have a lot of space, because Stack-a-pots will suit almost any patio, courtyard, balcony or garden.

Stack-a-pots come in a range of sizes and are available in four complementary colours that will enhance your outdoor area.  Each layer of the pots has its own water well that allows them to become self-watering so even in summer your plants will still be looking fantastic.

This week Colin planted a range of herbs that can be used for cooking and do well in pots during the cooler months.  These included parsley, chives, oregano, marjoram, thyme and coriander.

Always start with a good quality premium potting mix with the red ticks when planting herbs.  Add some Riversafe Eco-Wetta into the potting mix to help retain moisture, nutrients and to prevent leaching.

Then just make some small holes and pop the plants in.  The oregano, thyme and marjoram will look great cascading over the edge of the pot. Remember to tap the pot to settle it down and remove any air pockets.

Always give your plants a good watering in after planting with some seaweed solution to reduce transplant shock and to get them off to a great start.  Place them in a shady spot for a couple of days and then move them into a sunny garden position. And if you change your mind they are easy to move around.

Two to three weeks after planting apply an organically based liquid fertilizer to keep your plants growing quickly.  They will taste much better and you will have your own fresh herbs to become a ‘Master Chef’.

Stack-A-pots are ideal for any outdoor area, particularly if you’re short on space, and you can pick them up at your nearest Waldecks, Drovers, Melville Nurseries or Better Pets and Gardens store.
